- USC Esperanza College Prep
- Los Angeles, CA, USA
- Full Time
The Founding Math Blended Learning Teacher will have three primary functions: serving as a founding teacher of 9th grade Math, leading an advisory of 9th grade students, and being a contributing team member to multiple teams.
USC Esperanza College Prep is the fifth innovative high school of the Ednovate Network. Ednovate's mission is to close the college graduation gap through our Theory of Change, in which a strong sense of purpose and community, and a personalized college prep curriculum will allow each of our students to persist through college. Located in East Los Angeles, CA, Esperanza College Prep will open its doors to its first 9th grade class in August of 2017 and will expand one grade level per year until we serve students in grades 9-12 in the Fall of 2020. Esperanza College Prep will provide students and families with a safe and nurturing school culture that has high expectations and delivers a rigorous personalized college prep experience. Esperanza College Prep will prepare each of its graduates to use their college degrees and careers to make a Positive Multigenerational Change. This free, public charter high school personalizes learning through technology, focuses on developing a strong sense of purpose and builds college ready mindsets to ensure all of its students are ready to go to and graduate from the best colleges in the country. Redesigning the high school experience requires that staff members be willing to respond to feedback and data in real-time, reflect constantly on the impact of their actions and collaborate to continuously improve their practice.
In the teaching function, the teacher will be responsible for developing, collating and adopting a digital curriculum that is aligned to the College Readiness Standards, as well as the important content standards for their course. Teachers will be responsible for enforcing, with 100% consistency, our school-wide student code of conduct - and, in doing so, create a safe and rigorous learning environment. On a daily, weekly and quarterly basis, the teacher will engage in rigorous data analysis, making informed decisions about student learning to maximize their impact each day. The teacher's primary accountability is towards student learning - making significant gains on the ACT with their students.
In the advisory function, the teacher will be responsible for supporting his/her advisory students to meeting our 6 yearly promotion requirements. As an advisor, this means meeting with students on an individual basis to set goals, develop strategies and discuss setbacks. The advisor is also responsible for building meaningful relationships with both students and parents, serving as the primary interface between family and school. The primary accountability of the advising role is in the students meeting and exceeding their yearly promotion requirements.
In the team function, the teacher will be an active participant and accountable team member. They will engage in lively debates around planning, student learning outcomes and setting a school culture. Teams will be tasked with solving dilemmas as they appear at our school, and team members are the most critical problem-solvers. Team members should neither shy away from conflict nor accountability to results. The primary accountability of a team and its members is measured through student learning outcomes.
